The Perils of the Ignorance
For most of us, the last place we choose to find ourselves is in the middle of a legal matter. Confusion, mistrust, resentment, powerlessness, emotional upheaval and the dread of expense are common responses to the legal predicament. Too often though, these emotions lead otherwise intelligent people to act against their own interests. They look for someone, anyone, they think can help them and impulsively hand over their fate, frequently with unhappy results.
We continually hear stories of broken relationships, bankrupt businesses, wasted treasure and lost opportunities that began with the human compulsion to avoid the unpleasant. This avoidance in turn gives rise to a flawed, first decision. Common to all of these accounts is the realization, made too late, that the long-term negative effects of a bad first decision far outweigh the initial discomfort.
