What you’ll find on ClearPointLaw.com

Our website consists of three main parts: (1) an enhanced law dictionary written especially for non-lawyers, (2) a library of self-help legal Guides written in plain language and (3) a lawyer directory, listing top attorneys in your area, working in a variety of practice areas.

These three elements work together to help you make your first decision a wise decision. Our law dictionary provides both a definition and a context for key legal terms. The self-help legal Guides help you develop an understanding of the legal issue you are addressing. With this framework you can begin to develop effective questions that will clarify your options and direct your decision.

You can access these resources from any page using the menu at the top of any page.

Getting the most from our law dictionary

Clear-Point Law’s Law Dictionary is different than any other work of a similar nature. Here’s why. First, all the definitions are written in plain language to make reading easier. Second, we provide usage samples with most terms and illustrative examples with many. Seeing legalese in context helps build a solid understanding. Third, we have indexed all terms using Clear-Point Law’s proprietary system of legal elements. The legal element helps explain why a term is important in the eyes of the law. For more on our system of legal elements, view this overview.

The Clear-Point Law strategy for success

If this is your first visit to Clear-Point Law, or you just need some help getting started, here’s what we suggest.

  • Browse the self-help legal Guide index first. Find the subject that pertains to your issue and begin digging through the articles.
  • Define all unknown terms. Use Clear-Point Law’s Law Dictionary to provide both a definition and context.
  • Explore your other resources using the in-page links listed within the Guide. Remember knowledge is power. Get it here.
  • Develop relevant questions based on your reading. As you familiarize yourself with your issue, you should begin to line up the particulars of your situation with concepts you are learning about. This will almost certainly give rise to questions. Begin a journal and write them down. As you talk to attorneys or draw from other resources, continue to make notations in your journal. This will help clarify your thinking and serve as a reminder if the stress of the situation causes a lapse of memory.
  • As your knowledge grows, your options begin to clarify. Use your journal to list the pros and cons of each. Putting things on paper can help focus our thinking.
  • Be sure to consult a lawyer before you take legal action more significant than paying a parking ticket. The legal system does it’s best to provide forms driven processes for common legal issues, such as with filing for divorce or evicting a tenant. For some this provides not only a convenience but also a cost saving. Be careful, however. It is often wise to consult with an attorney before representing yourself. A small expense now could prevent a huge cost later.
  • Give us your feedback. Let us know what we can do to make ClearPontLaw.com better. We’re here to help you, so tell us what you need.
